We stopped about halfway to Pioche at a little roadside rest stop. No amenities, but there were some trees for the dogs.
Don't they look happy?
We arrived at Spring Valley State Park around 6:15, just in time to see the deer grazing at the end of the reservoir. I know you can't really see them, but this is as close as I could get.
You mean we came all this way just to sit in here?? (Notice that Penny is loose while the boys are locked up. Girl power!)
I had to pick up a new tent because my old one wasn't big enough for my cot (or all the dogs.) Note the Disneyesque sandstone cliff walls.
Looking up past the dog kennel to Jon and Paul's campsite.
One thing I do not like about camping... Outhouses. You can see the top of ours just across the road from our campsite.
Devil dog, Clark, sitting on my lap.
Jon, making breakfast. I had some of my fruit cocktail cake. Yum!
Jon and Paul's dog, Casey, did not appreciate all of the doggy invaders in her campsite.
Inflation in the wilderness. Not sure you can see the sign very well, but it shows that the cost of camping here has just gone up from $10 to $13 a night. Still quite a bargain.
Jewel and her dog, Baby, and I and my dogs all went for a little walk down the road to check out the scenery. There were pastures there with cows, but for some reason I didn't get any pictures of the cows. I took lots of pictures of the dogs, however.
Looking out over the pastures toward the early morning sun. Nights were cold, but daytime temperatures were almost too hot. At this time, about 10, it was beautiful.
We came back from our walk and couldn't find Brenda. Then we hear this voice from above and there she is, our guardian angel.
We were just beginning to appreciate the shade of the canopy. The only real drawback this area had, besides having to use an outhouse, was there was very little shade. You can just see the roofs of my tent and car.
Jon and I drove up to the main campsite to get more firewood. While Jon took his shower, I spoke to the folks who sell the firewood and they told me about an old graveyard up the road from our campsite. Jewel and I drove out that way, but gave up after a couple of miles. I took a pic so the folks back at camp could see what they were missing.
Back at camp. You can see how small this canyon is. It seems that very few people camp up here. The ranger was shocked to see so many of us here. I guess most people prefer showers and real bathrooms to privacy. Not me.
No one told me I was going camping with a bunch of cliff climbing wackos! Now Jon is getting into the act, climbing above Jewel's tent. I won't repeat the threats he was making about what he was going to do from up there because he knows where I work and he would hurt me!
Jewel and Baby, relaxing in their tent. She didn't get up to the campsite until very late on Friday night and had to leave late on Saturday night, so she was getting all the rest she could.
Just a quick shot of cliffs beyond ours.
